Here we have some Marvellous Loose Ends, written so that you may know that Jesus is the Messiah.
But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. If you believe this, you will have life because you belong to him.
John 20:31 New International Reader’s Version (NIRV)
Loose Ends
- Who wrote John’s gospel?
- What happens to Peter?
- “The disciple whom Jesus loved”
The Place
The Sea of Galilee. Here was where an earlier fishing miracle happened to them. Where he feed 1000s. Where he walked on the sea to help them.
He’s not after your stuff.
John 21:1-14
He asks for fish, knowing they had worked all night and got zero. Why? He could have fed them all with what he already had on the fire.
He’s not after your actions.
John 21:15
Peter would one day be unable to lead, but no matter.
He’s not after your love.
John 21:15-19
Jesus does the only perfect loving. He accepts even weak and failing friendship from us.
Defined by love.
John 21:20-25
John is no longer keen to wear the “Son of thunder” nickname Jesus gave him but simply calls himself “loved by Jesus”. Marvellous!
