What We Believe

About God

There is only one God, who has always been. He exists in three persons: Father, Son and Spirit, in perfect unity. He is the almighty and loving Creator, Saviour and Judge who sustains and governs all things according to his will as King of the Universe. He does this to bring the whole universe to the perfection it had lost, to show the goodness and greatness of his glory.

About Man

All people, men and women, are created in God’s image and are called to love and enjoy God with all their being. However, the first man, Adam, rebelled against God, ruining himself, all his descendants, and the Earth. Since then all people have followed in Adam’s rebellion and so are guilty before God. Our natural nature is corrupted by sin. This makes everyone subject to God’s just anger and judgment.

About Jesus

God showed his love for us by sending his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, who is both fully God and fully man. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, and lived a sinless life in obedience to the Father. He died on the cross, rose from the dead, and in his resurrected body ascended into heaven where he is ruler over all.

About Salvation

Our human nature can do nothing at all to reverse Adam’s fall. Because this is so, salvation is entirely the free gift of God and cannot be earned. Only the perfect Man, Jesus, could do that. Thank God he has, by dying in our place, once for all time. Jesus Christ is the only one who can stand between God and us sinners. By his death God’s anger is turned aside and we are rescued from sin and death. We are then given God’s “not guilty!” verdict, and counted as perfect in his eyes. This is the gospel, the good news, and is offered freely to us. We receive it by trusting in Jesus and following him.

The Bible

The Bible, as originally given, is God’s Word, without any errors. This precious, life-giving word is all we need to know God. The Bible is the supreme authority in all matters of faith and life.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit has been sent from heaven by the Father and the Son, Jesus. He enables people to turn to God the Father, and to trust in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. The Spirit makes the death of Jesus effective for individual sinners, giving them spiritual life. God’s Spirit lives in all those he has renewed, gradually making them like Jesus in their attitudes, actions and words.

The People Of God

The Lord Jesus Christ builds the Church, which is his people, not an organisation or a building. All who have been saved through what Jesus has done are members of his Church and so are united as his family. Jesus gives many abilities to his people: to help them serve and encourage one another: to help them spread the gospel to the world.

The Future

One day the Lord Jesus Christ will return from heaven. He will renew all things, bringing justice for all. On that day all sin, suffering and death will be completely destroyed and God will be glorified forever. He will welcome his people into a life of eternal joy with God, who is the source of all good things. Everyone who has rejected what Jesus has done for them will be excluded from God’s presence, and thus from everything good, forever.

God is patient, because he wants everyone to turn from sin and no one to be lost.
