Loved to the End
What does Jesus think about me?
Here is the answer: John 13:1.
It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
John 13:1
Without God there is no love.
Loved eternally: “his own”. Loved completely: “to the end”. God is love: 1 John 4:8
“his own”. What were they like? Fickle, proud, timid, weak, treacherous. Yet He still loved them. He still He loves us. See His:
Humble love
who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
Philippians 2:6-7
rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
Sacrificial love
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
John 15:13
Unconditional love
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8
Everlasting love
‘I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Jeremiah 31:3
I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.
Inseparable love
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:
‘For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.’37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:35-39
Abiding love
And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
Romans 5:5
Transformative love
Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 19 We love because he first loved us.
1 John 4:11,19
– we grow and relish Him in the gospel, and then by reflection love others, “as Christ loved us”.
