The Priority of Praising God

The Psalms are the Bible’s song book. The Psalms begin with an exhortation to delight in God’s Word (Psalm 1) and they end with an exhortation to delight in the praise of God (Psalm150).

WHERE ARE WE TO PRAISE HIM? Verse 1 – Everywhere

  • In the sanctuary referring here to the Temple
  • In the heavenly places

God’s glory fills the universe; His praise must do no less.

Derek Kidner

WHY ARE WE TO PRAISE HIM? Verse 2

  • For His mighty deeds.
  • For His greatness

If I could come up with the words that were adequate to the praise of God I would say them, but I can’t come up with words that are adequate that fully do justice to who He is!

William Plummer

HOW ARE WE TO PRAISE HIM? Verses 3-5

  • With fullness of Joy
  • With fervency of heart (Psalm 103 10,000 reasons)

WHO IS TO PRAISE HIM? Verse 6

  • Everyone
  • Everything (Let everything that has breath praise the LORD!)

CONCLUSION

  • How can I fight my own spiritual apathy and lukewarmness ?
  • How can I personally cultivate my own heart towards God during the week ?
  • How can I prepare for public worship ?
  • How can we better engage with people after the worship time ?
