Light and life
John’s Gospel, chapter 1, verses 1 to 3
Who do you think Jesus is? Here is what one famous man said:-
I know men, and I tell you that Jesus Christ is not a mere man. Between him and whoever else is in the world there is no possible term of comparison. Alexander, Cæsar, Charlemagne, and I founded empires. But upon what did we rest the creations of our genius ? Upon force. Jesus Christ alone founded his empire upon love ; and at this hour millions of men would die for him.
Words of Napoleon Bonaparte at the end of his life
The eternal Word, at the dawn of creation, became what he had never been before. He became flesh, and dwelt among us. Yet he has no beginning and end.
Jesus the Creative Word, John 1:3
All things were created by Him, therefore He must be eternal. He has to be God, for no less a person could die for our sin. Only One fully God and fully man could work out our salvation.
Jesus the Life-giving Word John 1:4
In Him was life, which was the light of men.
Abundant, satisfying life. Life that is not without its own unique troubles, yet with a Saviour who knows us and is with us in our troubles.
Jesus the Illuminating Word John 1:5
The darkness doesn’t understand the Light. This is the devil’s work. But the light overcomes the darkness. Evil will not win in the end.
The natural person is not so much separated from God by ignorance as by inclination.
Who is Jesus? What do you say?
