Jesus, Sovereign and Strong

Jesus, Sovereign and Strong – Matthew’s Gospel, chapter 26, verses 1 to 30

Jesus now moves from a ministry of teaching to a ministry of suffering.

26 When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples, ‘As you know, the Passover is two days away – and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.’

Snatching victory from the jaws of apparent defeat

Victory! Yes, and for all kinds of sinners. Jesus did not die because of the priests’ scheming nor the Roman governor’s connivance, but by God’s plan and purpose.

26 The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed one. 27 Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed. 28 They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen.

Acts 4:26-28

“Proof that, given half a chance, the human race would do away with its Maker”

Mary’s extravagant LOVE, AND GIFT FOR his BURIAL

12 When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. 13 Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.’

Matthew 26:12-13
Judas’ Great Betrayal

14 Then one of the Twelve – the one called Judas Iscariot – went to the chief priests 15 and asked, ‘What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?’ So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. 16 From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.

Jesus’ Enduring Memorial

26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, ‘Take and eat; this is my body.’ 27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.’
