The Day the Light Went Out

The Day the Light Went Out

Jesus’ life marked more by rejection more than by belief.

Jesus, the God-Revealer

Then Jesus cried out, ‘Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. 45 The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me.

John 12:44-45

To believe in God is to believe in Jesus. To believe in Jesus is to believe in God.

Jesus, the Light and Saviour of the world

I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.

John 12:46

By nature we love the darkness rather than the light, sin rather than forgiveness. He rescues from darkness, from sin.

Jesus, the Coming Judge

‘If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day.

John 12:47-48

How patient God is. He is kind. But patience will reach it’s end. On the last day the word that gives life will also judge those who rejected it.

Jesus command to believe

49 For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken. 50 I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.’

John 12:49-50

This is the Father’s command that leads to eternal life.

2000 years ago the light went out when Jesus hid himself from those who rejected Him. It will go out again, when He returns, for those who still reject Him.
