The King’s Authority.
Matthew 8:23-9:8.
The world is in a mess, has been since Genesis 3’s rebellion, and no human plans can fix it.
Only Jesus the King can fix it.
Jesus’ authority over nature: Matthew 8:23-27
“You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”
Jesus authority over demons: Matthew 8:28-34
Demons do exist. Our part is to avoid an unhealthy interest in them. Jesus has infinite power over them, and they must beg before him, knowing their doom. “If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.” “Go!” What kind of man is this, that even the demons of hell obey him?
Jesus authority to forgive sins: Matthew 9:1-9:8
Our greatest need. “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”
What kind of man is this, that can forgive our sins? The crowd said “awesome”, but did they really believe this was the true King?
