A Song for All Seasons – The Never-Failing Love of the Lord

A Song for All Seasons – The Never-Failing Love of the Lord

The Never-Failing Love of the Lord – Psalm 77

‘Will the Lord reject for ever?
Will he never show his favour again?
Has his unfailing love vanished for ever?
Has his promise failed for all time?
Has God forgotten to be merciful?
Has he in anger withheld his compassion?’

10 Then I thought, ‘To this I will appeal:
the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand.
11 I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
12 I will consider all your works
and meditate on all your mighty deeds.’

The Never-Failing Love of the Lord

Psalm 77 is a lament: a song wrestling with the difficult events of life. A lament is not a lack of faith. It is a prayer, a cry of a believing heart in pain.

  • Praying with honest questions – Psalm 77, verses 1 to 9
    • Will the Lord reject for ever?
    • Will he never show his favour again?
    • Has his unfailing love vanished for ever?
    • Has his promise failed for all time?
    • Has God forgotten to be merciful?
    • Has he in anger withheld his compassion?
  • Remembering God’s past love and to help those who trust in Him – Psalm 77, verses 10 to 20
    • The great example: Rescuing Israel from slavery in Egypt.
    • The greater example: Jesus going to the cross to rescue us.
