The Promise of Heaven

The Promise of Heaven

Sad and troubled disciples: one was a betrayer, all the rest would abandon Him, and He was leaving. Faith began to waver. Embarrassment, confusion, sadness.

The Command: Trust Me

‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.

John 14:1

Not a distant command. He was weighed down himself. But He cares for them. You can trust me because of who I AM. No-one else can compare with our gentle, kind Saviour.

Truly the best advice is “trust in the Lord” who is the unchanging anchor of the soul.

One thing is certain: Christ has got you covered! Believers are not all alike in faith, but all are still believers. Strong faith looks like weakness, like humility, for it is a dependant. Weak faith is not false faith. Faith does not grow by looking at itself.

The Promise: A Prepared Place

My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?

John 14:2

What is heaven? Not the location that matters, but Who is there. “My Father’s house” it is home! Sufficient space for everyone who comes to Christ. No “No Vacancy” signs. A place prepared by Jesus: He secures our right to entry. His cross and His crown. Many believe in heaven, but are not sure how to get there.

Hope: A Personal Return

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.’

John 14:3-4

The goal is to be with Jesus Christ.

“Even so, come Lord Jesus.”

The way to heaven leads straight through Calvary.
