The Sovereignty of God

The Sovereignty of God

Our God is in heaven;
    he does whatever pleases him.

Psalm 115:3
In a world of change we must look to the Sovereignty of God.

He is King of kings and Lord of lords.

His authority is not constrained by time and space.

No space in which He is not sovereign.

I know that the Lord is great,
that our Lord is greater than all gods.
The Lord does whatever pleases him,
in the heavens and on the earth,
in the seas and all their depths.

Psalm 135:5-6
Before the foundation of the world all was planned.

God knows, decrees, the end from the beginning and everything in between.
Before the foundation of the world all was planned.

‘You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honour and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
    and have their being.’

Revelation 4:11
He considers and decrees the good of His creatures, even using evil for good.

The story of Joseph is a good example: Genesis chapter 37 to the end – the original “rags to riches” story. The best example is the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, Christ the Lord.

If God is sovereign over evil, is man therefore accountable for his actions?

Acts 2:23 says “Yes!”

23 This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.

Acts 2:23
Is He Safe?

“I tell you he is the King of the wood and the son of the great Emperor-beyond-the-Sea. Don’t you know who is the King of Beasts? Aslan is a lion – the Lion, the great Lion.” “Ooh!” said Susan. “I’d thought he was a man. Is he – quite safe? I shall feel rather nervous about meeting a lion.” “That you will, dearie, and no mistake,” said Mrs. Beaver; “if there’s anyone who can appear before Aslan without their knees knocking, they’re either braver than most or else just silly.” “Then he isn’t safe?” said Lucy. “Safe?” said Mr. Beaver; “don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? Of Course he isn’t safe. But he is good.”
