The Tri-Unity of God, Light, Warmth and Life

The Tri-Unity of God, Light, Warmth and Life

Is the Trinity just some obscure, intellectual idea?

Here Pastor Roy shows it to be light, warmth and life, and the very heart of the good news of Jesus.

God is unique and must remain a mystery…

but He is not un-knowable, for He shows Himself in the Bible, in history.

Bring me a worm that can comprehend a man, and then I will show you a man that can comprehend the triune God.” We can know enough of Him, but not all of Him.

John Wesley

He is three equal Persons, but the details are vague in the Old Testament, like the furniture in a dimly lit room. In the New Testament the lights come on. Where? At Jesus’ baptism.

16 As soon as Jesus was baptised, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.’

Matt 3:16-17

The Father loves His Son, and all creation. The Son gives His life to rescue the broken creation. The Holy Spirit draws us to Jesus, our Good Lord.

The Three Persons are united in our salvation

Here we see the 3 united in salvation. All 3 are vital.

1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God – 2 the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures 3 regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, 4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 1:1-4

“One must face the fact that all the talk about His
love for men, and His service being perfect freedom, is not (as one would gladly believe) mere propaganda, but an appalling truth. He really does want to fill the universe with a lot of loathsome little replicas of Himself—creatures, whose life, on its miniature scale, will be qualitatively like His own, not because He has absorbed them but because their wills freely conform to His. We want cattle who can finally become food; He wants servants who can finally become sons. We want to suck in, He wants to give out. We are empty and would be filled; He is full and flows over. Our war aim is a world in which Our Father Below has drawn all other beings into himself: the Enemy wants a world full of beings united to Him but still distinct.”

C.S. Lewis, “The Screwtape Letters”

Take note: These are the words of a demon named Screwtape, who can only speak in the upside-down language of Hell. So from his point of view “the Enemy” is God, and “Our Father Below” is Satan.
