Two Big, Vital Questions – John’s Gospel, chapter 18, verses 28 to 38
The circumstances
The early hours of Jesus’ last day, facing the Roman governor. Though the common people heard Jesus gladly, their leaders hated him, and came to Pilate for permission to execute Him.
The first question
Why are you here?
37 ‘You are a king, then!’ said Pilate. Jesus answered, ‘You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.’
John 18:37
The second question
“What is truth?” Pilate asked.
- God is, and created everything
- We are made in his image, but cut off from Him
- God has made a way back home for us, by Jesus giving himself as a sacrifice
- We all have a choice to make
So what?
Does it matter to you? “Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” Listen to Him.
24 ‘Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.
