Bible Reading – Psalm 51

For the director of music. A psalm of David. When the prophet Nathan came to him after David had committed adultery with Bathsheba.

Have mercy on me, O God,
    according to your unfailing love;
according to your great compassion
    blot out my transgressions.
Wash away all my iniquity
    and cleanse me from my sin.

For I know my transgressions,
    and my sin is always before me……..

WHAT IS GUILT?
"Guilt is an awareness of having done wrong or committed a crime accompanied by feelings of shame and regret" What do you do when your feeling guilty ?

Psalm 51 must be read in the context of 2 Samuel chapters 11 & 12, where we read how bad King David’s sin was.
1. HIS ADMISSION OF SIN AND GUILT, verses 1-6
"David's greatest enemy was not the warring nations around him but the sin within him."

2. HIS BROKENNESS OVER HIS SIN, verse 17

3. HIS COMMITMENT TO CHANGE, verses 7-19

How long since you have sung a song like Psalm 51? What hidden sins of the heart have we been turning a blind eye to?
