Micah’s Message

Micah’s Message

Ancestry

Our ancestry is of great interest to many. Here is Micah, our ancestor in the faith, a prophet of God from a village near Jerusalem, 700 years since time of the Exodus under Moses. He lived through the reign of 3 Kings, but Micah tells us about the ordinary people, and not these kings.

What was Micah saying to his generation?
  • things they already knew.
  • things that displeased God.
  • things that God graciously promised.
What is Micah saying to our generation?

God has used the people of Israel to bring salvation to the nations, and like them all nations need God’s redemption. In response they are to live (though imperfectly) as Jesus the God-Man lived – Micah 6:8

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.

Micah 6:8

‘But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
though you are small among the clans of Judah,
out of you will come for me
one who will be ruler over Israel,
whose origins are from of old,
    from ancient times.’

Micah 5:2
