The God Who Saves

The God Who Saves, Exodus 11 & 12

11: Now the Lord said to Moses, ‘I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. After that, he will let you go from here, and when he does, he will drive you out completely. Tell the people that men and women alike are to ask their neighbours for articles of silver and gold.’ (The Lord made the Egyptians favourably disposed towards the people, and Moses himself was highly regarded in Egypt by Pharaoh’s officials and by the people.)

12: 31 During the night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, ‘Up! Leave my people, you and the Israelites! Go, worship the Lord as you have requested. 32 Take your flocks and herds, as you have said, and go. And also bless me.’

The God Who Saves

“God helps those who help themselves.” The best known verse in the Bible, at least many people think so. But it’s not in the Bible! There is some truth in it, but far better is “God saves those who can’t save themselves.” (“You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly”. Romans 5:6)

  • He is powerful enough to save.
  • He saves those who don’t deserve to be saved. “For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.” 1 Corinthians 5:7
