What is God Like? – Revelation chapter 4
Let’s pretend I’ve never seen a zebra, or a picture of a zebra. How would you describe it to me?
- You might say “It’s like a donkey.”
- “But it has black and white stripes”
So is it like this?
No, not quite!
Now let’s pretend I am blind – I’ve never seen anything.
How would you tell me what a zebra looks like now?
You might say:
- “It has a long body.”
- “It has 4 legs.”
- “and a big head!”
Since I can feel my own body, legs and head I might imagine a zebra looks like this.
Of course I would be wrong – it is nothing like a zebra 🙁
Now God is not like anything we can see, or even like anything we can imagine. We can only get a good idea if He tells us. In the Bible’s last book, “The Revelation” , chapter 4, God gives us some good clues. (The word “revelation” means to reveal, to show)
